I’m a writer with a passion for nature and the great outdoors. As a child, my family vacations centered around camping in various locations around the U.S. We spent plenty of time hiking, swimming, exploring caves, and sitting around a campfire. My mom and I also frequently camped with our horses, sometimes even sleeping in the back of our horse trailer. Those are some of the best memories of my life. To this day, my family and I still enjoy exploring the great outdoors. Some of our favorite destinations include the Grand Canyon, the beaches of Key West, the Pacific Northwest, the Redwood forests, and Yellowstone National Park.
A fast-paced thriller that hooked me from the very first chapter, this is an intricately plotted book full of twists and turns I didn’t see coming. In fact, I was so invested that I read it in a matter of days.
I loved that the main story takes place on a camping trip in the mountains. The characters felt very realistic, and the mystery of the two missing friends kept me on my toes until the big reveal near the end.
I absolutely loved the lush island atmosphere in The Depths. This book is eerie and beautiful, with a dash of romance (love a good romantic subplot!), but all is not as it seems with our main character, Addie, and the boy with whom she becomes enamored.
Over halfway through, the story took a turn I did not expect at all, but it kept me engaged the entire time. This book has such a unique setting and is so different from other YA books I’ve read. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I found this book by chance and wanted to read it because the premise is similar to one of my projects. The Wild is a murder mystery set at a camp for juvenile delinquents. This story takes place in the Pacific Northwest, which was a big bonus for me as it’s one of my favorite places on Earth.
I liked the author’s unique and snappy writing style and the fast pacing of the book. It kept me turning pages, especially once the first murder occurred. Overall, this book was a lot of fun to read.

This is one of the first young adult books I remember reading as an adult. I read it in college when I was preparing to become a teacher, and then I read it to my students once I was in the classroom.
I love the survival aspect of the story and Brian’s perseverance to push through after his plane crashes in the wilderness of snowy northern Canada. I also love that this book features a younger teen, which we don’t often see in YA books.
The story kept me fully engaged and I was rooting for Brian the whole time.

I love a good story that takes place at church camp (something I have a few memories of!), and this one is both hilarious and heartfelt. The story involves the fake dating trope, which is always fun, but the best part is the author’s use of humor.
I also just loved how “real” this story is. Not all kids go to church camp for the reasons the church may be wanting. In this case, CeCe is simply chasing after her ex-boyfriend. Such a relatable thing!
I sped through this story and had plenty of laughs along the way.

Time travel or interworld travel lend additional layers of intrigue and mystery, forcing the inescapable contemplation of a more thrilling, alternate reality. And if it’s all packaged in artful, breathtaking prose that breeds full-color images, audible noises, indelible flavors, nose-crumpling odors, and tangible textures, I will happily lose myself in the pages, truly forgetting about the strictures of everyday life… at least until I get hungry and remember I need to consume more than books to survive.
